Bold and beautiful, simultaneously chaotic and serene, Jaipur the “Pink City” of Rajasthan is the capital of the state. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer, and after whom the city is named. Home to the famous “Hawa Mahal” (Palace of the Winds), as well as two UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Amber Fort and the Jantar Mantar, Jaipur is an incredible display of the complex history of northern India with it’s diverse influences. It’s walls are painted a terracotta pink, a color that historically represents warmth, friendship and hospitality. A city rich in arts and culture – a city full of artisans that make miniature paintings to exotic sculptures, to stunning jewelry, Jaipur is the handicraft capital of India. Also known as as the “Paris of India”, experience the royal legacy of palaces and a game of polo played in the grounds of the Rambagh Palace Hotel; a walk around the streets of the old city, that will transport you to a way of life of an era long past. And finally, Jaipur is home to the biggest Literature festival in Asia.
